World History Syllabus 2019-2020 Instructor Information Instructor Office Location & Hours Mr. Fanelle [email protected] South Mountain Appointment Only between 3-4:00 General Information Description A study of World History is integral for students to analyze the human experience through time, to recognize the relationships of events and people, and to interpret significant patterns, themes, ideas, beliefs, and turning points in world history. Students should be able to apply the lessons of World History to their lives as citizens of the United States and members of the world community through the development of critical thinking skills. Expectations and Goals You are expected to participate in all classroom activities which include but are not limited to homework, classroom participation and long term projects. You must earn a “C” in order to pass the class and receive credit. Incomplete grades must be completed within a defined period or the grade will become an “F” by default. Course MaterialsEach of you received a supply list. The items listed below are the items you should bring to class each day. Required Materials College-ruled filler paper in a binder Blue/black pens or a pencil Note cards USB flash drive Highlighters Composition book Required Text World History and Geography classroom text, Jackson J. Spielvogel, Ph.D. EDMODO.COM Everyone must sign up for Edmodo. Most PowerPoints and videos will be posted. Readings and handouts are posted and can be printed. Quizzes, exams, and project due dates will be posted and you will receive email reminders. If you are not in school, EDMODO will keep you up-to-date on the things you have missed. Edmodo is SM’s universal platform for teachers to communicate with students. Parents will receive notices via REMIND. Grades are posted on Synergy. Grading Scale90-100% A 80-89% B 70-79% C 69% or lower F Homework You will receive homework. Homework will be limited. However, when assigned, it is due the next time your class meets. Late work must have a parent/guardian signature. Once progress reports and report cards grades are turned into the office, late work for that period of time will no longer be accepted. Classroom Rules You must wear your ID at all times Bring supplies each day Follow classroom procedures Class begins when the bell rings Ask questions Seek assistance Do not leave the room without permission Remain in your assigned seat unless stated otherwise Treat others as you wish to be treated Follow all SCHOOL RULES Videos and Images A variety of videos and images will be shown in class. Some videos and images may contain disturbing images of war, disease ravaged people, and artwork from a variety of civilizations. Office Hours I am available afterschool if you need additional help. Please make an appointment as I may be attending a meeting with a parent, club, or a school committee. |
